Widespread application of the Montreal Convention has necessitated a new “standard” air waybill. As of March 17, 2008, if you are an IATA-participating carrier, your master air waybills must be compliant with IATA’s Resolution 600b (“600b”). While 600b’s recognition of the change in law was overdue, 600b is born of compromise and antitrust concerns. 600b is designed for use by direct air carriers, and not indirect air carriers (“IACs”). Shipments to/from the United States are subject to allegations of price-fixing and other anti-competitive practices. 600b addresses those issues by incorporating the direct air carriers’ tariffs.
